El Paraiso Pink Bourbon

Diego and the team at El Paraiso are back!⁣

Where to start with this one, this is special, really special, a 90+ cup score Pink Bourbon and it's an absolute banger. This is our second coffee from Diego, the first natural lot released in January quickly went down a storm and disappeared, so I feel very lucky to have been able to secure this second very limited Pink Bourbon lot from our importing partner.⁣

I’m really conscious of ‘emperors new clothes’ when it comes to coffee and tasting notes, and I tend to think if you see a flavour note of something mad like ‘candied rhubarb wrapped in a fig roll that’s then been gently laced in liquorice snap under the light of a full moon’, then chances are you’ll look for that flavour in the coffee, even if it is a little absurd and probably doesn’t taste like that.⁣

After saying all that....I really do think this bean is something else, I've never tasted coffee this good. An incredibly silky caramel body, sweet peach and rhubarb, and the best aroma while brewing (especially filter). I know the price is a little steep compared to our other offerings, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of the green bean... but I think its a case of a little bit of something brilliant goes a long way, and El Paraiso is definitely a little bit of coffee heaven. On the webshop now.

In with the new

I’m never sure if people read the news sections on websites (I know I don’t!) but I feel it’s probably best to start as I mean to go on and keep this updated. In that spirit, welcome to our new website! We first started work on the old website about 5 years ago and it was beginning to feel a little dated and in need of a refresh, so here we go. If you do come across any issues I’d be very grateful of a heads up, other than that we’ve added a few non bean items on the shop for home brewing and also stock Standart for all the hardcore coffee coffee nerds among us.

We’ve also had a few new beans land this week, both fresh crop Peru, one macerated natural and the other natural, both excellent. The macerated natural from Elvis Tineo Rafael has a load of bold jammy flavours in the cup, excellent on filter but also translating across very well as espresso - It’s also the strangest smelling green bean I’ve ever had, a natural always has a tropical funk smell to it when green, but this is something else, so pungent.

The other from Edilberto Sanchez is delicious (maybe my favourite) with bright strawberry on filter. I took a bit of a gamble on this bean, normally I’d get in a heap of samples from our importer and pick beans based on those cuppings, on this occasion I noticed the bean land in the UK, it had a high SCA score and was quickly selling out in a matter of days so decided to take a blind gamble on a sack of it - This is not the way to pick beans! But worth it this time.

Other than that stay tuned for an extra special release in the next week or two, we have something coming in that is VERY special.

Cheers,

Joel
