BERRIES, PLUM, TROPICAL FRUIT, HONEY, INTENSE CARAMEL
I’m in two minds on how to write this up. This is something else. When I source coffee I kind of put a bean into a couple of different buckets, you’ve got your house/everyday stuff, rare varietals (Gesha etc) and then the wacky/crazed scientist lots (Bermudez, Jairo etc), and then this. I’ve not had something of this calibre in before. I bought this in as a ‘competition level’ coffee. It’s a beautiful cup, no experimental processing, just some of the rarest and most exotic varietals. And yes, this is a blend from origin, but don’t let that put you off, the calibre of this is exceptional (Yellow Gesha, Maragesha, Sidra, Striped Bourbon, Yellow Sudan Rume - if you like electronic music, the boiler room of coffee).
In the cup, it’s incredibly sweet with a lingering honey body and a host of fruits, berries, ripe plum and then lavender on the finish. No one flavour dominates, it works together so well, just fantastic. It’s roasted light and I’d recommend filter for this.
Some other bits to note, it’s actually grown by Felipe Arcila on Jardines del Eden (do read about it below), Felipe is the son of none other than Jairo Arcila and Luz Helena Salazar, coffee pedigree right there. This is a shiny label coffee. Enjoy. Joel.
THE FARM - FROM JARDINES
As Colombian specialty coffee producers, we have worked with Mother Nature to cultivate one of the world's most extraordinary farms for exotic coffee varietals.
In our pursuit of the perfect land that nurtures exceptional coffee beans, we have discovered a magic field nestled within the breathtaking mountains of Pijao, Quindío. Pijao is a natural wonder in the heart of Colombia’s Andean region. And it was in this sweet spot that we proudly founded two of our renowned experimental farms:
Jardines del Eden and Jardines del Encanto.
Our project encompasses more than 20 award-winning exotic varietals, each of which is cultivated at the perfect altitude and soil, benefiting from the refreshing microclimate of our region. As a result, we get sweeter, more complex yet delicate flavors consistently every year.
At JARDINES, we are the custodians of our ecosystem assuring that our farming and processing practices are aligned with our core values of tradition, sustainability, and innovation. Our dedication and forward-thinking toward the specialty coffee industry are reflected in our meticulous attention to every exotic varietal we cultivate and each coffee lot we produce.
Jardines del Eden itself is a 19-hectare farm located at 1750 – 2050 m.a.s.l, in the municipality of Pijao in the Quindio department. The mountainous geography, covered by spectacular biodiversity and wrapped by a fresh microclimate, makes the coffee grown here sweet, balanced, and with a high-quality cup profile. By working with nature instead of against it, we can produce coffees that not only taste exceptional but also reflect our values of sustainable farming practices and social responsibility. Jardines del Eden’s main purpose is to work through innovative and sustainable practices to make our coffee the best cultivated in Colombia.
